drinks involving aquavit
i have this bottle but i feel just drinking it straight is very drunky. i want recommendations -- there are some recipes on the internet but i don't know if i trust them. i have an extensive at-home bar so feel free to recommend crazy stuff, chances are i have the ingredient or can get it very cheaply!
There's lots of different varieties although many including the brennevin have an overwhelmingly caraway flavour that is killer with grapefruit juice. I'm wondering if I can:
a) find acquavit in the state of Pennsylvania
b) use the ice cream maker to create some kind of grapefruit aquavit slushy
what are pennsylvania's liquor laws? in new york, if i can't find a liquor in the store, i can order it from the internet, but in dc i was not allowed to do that due to blue laws. if pennsylvania allows online ordering of booze, that might be your best bet.
No booze in PA that isn't bought and sold by the PA state liquor control board through the state wines and spirits stores. Technically you aren't even allowed to transport it over the state line.
Our Swedish neighbors just drank it straight, in increasing quantities as the night wore on.
How do you feel about trying infusions? Aquavit (the restaurant) has a ton of house-infused flavors, and it seems like a really good way to go. They also put aquavit in their bloody marys, and it's really nice. That drink needs a more cutesy name, though... Bloody Margit?
Fjellbekk (Mountain Stream):
Pour
2 cl vodka
2 cl aquavit
1 dash lime cordial
into icefilled longdrink glass, top up with clear sweet-type lemon pop (eg Sprite).
Icelandic BrennivĂn is not strictly an aquavit, though I agree it belongs to about the same class.

we were just talking about icelandic brennavin - a.k.a. "the black death" a.k.a. acquavit - in the pub yesterday following this radio show and were similarly at a loss for how to use this stuff in any kind of practical, i.e. non-black-death way. it may not be possible.
